Recommendations

Only use OEM Honda Type 2 Blue coolant.

Any other coolant fluid is not applicable for the F20C/F22C engine. Even engine coolant fluids that state "safe for aluminium engines" are still not recommended as they usually contain additives that are not safe for our engines.

The engine coolant fluid has to lubricate the waterpump, work with all the different materials used in the cooling system, prevent freezing and at the same time still perform well enough to cool the engine.

The OEM Honda Type 2 Blue coolant comes already pre-mixed with antifreeze to be safe for usage during winter and summer.

Green engine coolant fluid (Type 1)

As stated above, always use the blue colored OEM Honda Type 2 coolant fluid. However don't worry if you encounter green engine coolant fluid in your system when draining it. The OEM first time filling uses a green colored engine coolant fluid. It is referred to as OEM Honda Type 1 engine coolant.

Mixing Type 1 with Type 2

It is safe to mix booth coolant fluids.

Distilled water

It is not recommended to put distilled water into the cooling system.

Distilled water contains no ions. It will there for start to exchange ions with the materials it gets in contact with. This can harm the materials in your cooling system.
